In the midsummer heat, the smell of decay from the corpses lying around is a nuisance throughout the area. But as soon as he arrives at the site, Johann realizes that the villagers are probably the least of his problems: a fast-growing slime mould has infested the corpses - and is apparently able to breathe new life into the dead. For Sophia, the chance of a scientific breakthrough; for Johann, the last thing he had hoped for in a reunion with Sophia...
