Manu tells the British officers that if they force the women to lift their veils, she will complain to the king and accuse the officers of outraging their modesty. The women are allowed to proceed without being checked. Meanwhile, Motibai tries her best to make Gangadhar see that the girl participating in the prayers is not Manu. But when the bride lifts her veil after the prayers, it is indeed Manu. Motibai walks away in a huff. Gangadhar informs Manu that he has captured the bandit who had attacked her but is unable to punish him. Manu replies that because Samar Singh is repentant, forgiving him would be righteous. Manus answer pleases Gangadhar and he appreciates her wisdom.
